We have two new inductees to the Sequoyah Alumni Association "HALL OF FAME . First is Laura Hazel Rhoten . Hazel began her career at Sequoyah Orphans Training School in about 1937. She came to assist Mr. Bill Ames teach weaving. The weaving shop was located on campus near the commissary. When the weaving program became the Cherokee Weavers and moved off campus, Hazel taught physical education, tumbling and basketball; girl scouts, Y-teens and other programs for girls. She spent much of her later years in the home economics department teaching home-making. She also was instrumental in the music programs with her best friend, Portia Vaughn. Programs such as pep squad, square dance, choir, and the annual Christmas Cantata. Hazel retired in 1968, her 31 years of meritorious service to the boys and girls of Sequoyah High School is recognized by her induction into the Sequoyah Alumni Association ~ HALL OF FAME !
