Lou  Ellen  Watashe
Sequoyah  High School ~ 1960s

    Lou Ellen Spencer (Watashe)  (Seq.-1960s) our dear wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend departed this earth to be with her creator on the Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006.

Lou came into this world on Jan. 22, 1952. She attended Monroe Elementary, McClain High School,  Sequoyah Indian High School  and graduated from Chilocco Indian School. Upon graduating high school, Lou attended Haskell Indian University and later earned her associates degree from Bacone College. 

Lou was well-respected and loved by many in and out of her community. She devoted much of her time and energy to preserving and teaching about Native values, traditions and the Euchee language. Lou was a mother and provider to many kids within her community as she opened her house and heart to many throughout the years. 

Lou was affiliated with Pole Cat Ceremonial Grounds, being the head ribbon dancer. Lou was a member of the Little Cussettan Baptist Church and the Native American Church for which Lou was a well-known member. Ir addition, Lou was an avid softball player who established herself as on of the "Elite" as she is honored in the Softball Hall Of Fame.

Lou was preceded in death by her father, George Watashe; two brothers, Kenneth and Ronnie Watashe; two sisters, Lucy Watashe and Sutta Bryant; and son Shane Spencer.

Lou Leaves behind her husband  Evans (Bill) Spencer  (Cls-'64) ; mother Mary Watashe; five sons, Kenneth (Cheyenne) Watashe, wife Tennville and children Sage and Jaiden Watashe from Enid; Paige White and child Maysa Zoda White from Sapulpa; Eric Spencer, wife Laura and children Erica Te-neet-ke Spencer, Jazmyne Oscada Spencer, CireYecke Spencer from Claremore; Yoney Spencer, wife Janette and children Taygann Day-ya-yane Spencer, Alyssa Sangene Spencer and Sadie Shafa Spencer from Kellyville; and George Watashe and children Cadence Taylor Watashe from Kellyville, Oklahoma. Four sisters, Veletta Watashe Anderson   (Cls-'72) from Kellyville; Aleta Watashe  (Cls-'73)  from Kellyville;  Katie Watashe Bucktrot  (Soph-'73_Jr-'74)  from Sapulpa and Leatrice Bearpaw from Glenpool.

We are grateful to have had you in our life and blessed to have had the opportunity for you to strengthen our spirit with your wisdom. We will deeply miss you and will forever hold you in our mind, heart and soul. We love you, Lou. 

Wake services for Mrs. Spencer have been set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006 at Smith Funeral Chapel with Chink officiating. After the wake, the body will be taken to the home where services have been set for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006 with the Rev. Malcolm Tiger officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery. 

Serving as casketbearers will be Bruce Harrington, Scooter Webb, James McCall, Mark Marshall, Alien Watashe and Bubba Tiger. Honorary bearers will be J.R. Romine, Sonny Bucktrot, Thomas Bernett, Corey Anderson, Josh Bearpaw, Baymond Bearpaw, Ronald Bryant, Robert Sartain, David Dennison and Robbie Harry.
