Robert Lee Vance     TAHLEQUAH, Ok -- Funeral services for Robert L. Vance , (Seq. Student 1960s), 67, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma , are 10:00 am, Friday January 17, 2014, at Green Country Funeral Home. Officiating will be Reverend Glen Carpenter. Pallbearers are Jeff Vance, Larry Vance, Archie Vance, Derek Vance, Randy Vance and Mark Vance. Honorary pallbearers are members of American Legion Post 135, VFW Post 3707, Elks Lodge #2601, Corn-stalk Shooters, Brian Vance and Caleb Vance. Interment will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery at 12:00 pm under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.

Robert Lee Vance was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Jeff Vance and Edith (Redbird) Vance on February 18, 1946. He passed away on January 13, 2014, at his home in Tahlequah.

Robert enlisted in the US Army in 1965, and was stationed in Ft. Benning, GA. In March of 1967, while serving as squad leader assigned to Company B, 4th Battalion of the Brigade’s 12th Infantry in Viet Nam he was promoted to Sergeant in just 18 months. During his service time Robert received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Sharpshooter and Good Conduct Medal.

Robert enjoyed fast pitch softball, participating in road runs having completed a 1/2 marathon.

He was as avid fisherman and gardener putting in a vegetable garden every year. He would participate in turkey and corn-stalk shoots. Robert volunteered many hours at the VFW and Elks Lodge where he enjoyed calling Bingo. Most importantly he enjoyed spending time with family.

Robert has been preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Buddy Dean Vance, John Lee Vance, Junior Vance, Jerome Thomas “Hank” Vance; and an infant sister, Alice Bernice Vance.

He is survived by his wife Marie Vance of the home; sons, Steven Vance and wife Tracie, Robert “Curley” Vance II and wife Toni, and David “Big D” Taylor and wife Sheri all of Tahlequah; grandchildren, Stephen, Tyler, Shawn, McKenna, Sierrah, Mason, Jayce, Jackson, Brandon, Ashley, and Courtney; five great grandchildren;

Brothers: Victor Vance
(Seq. Stud. 1960s)  and wife Ruby, Ernest Vance (Seq.fresh. 1960) and wife Dora, and Larry Vance; sisters, Mary Ann Vance Feather (Seq.Soph. 1960), Barbara Sanders and Pauline Hilb; along with many extended family members; friends and loved ones.
