Ernest  (Ernie)  Ray  Tiger


  TAHLEQUAH, Ok --  Ernest (Ernie) Ray Tiger Sr.  (Seq. ~ Class of 1966) , 58, of Tahlequah, passed from this life on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007.
Ernie was born in Claremore, Aug. 6, 1948.

     Ernie was a proud Marine of the 3rd Division, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, and a Vietnam veteran. While serving in Vietnam, he received the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

     He was a citizen of the Muscogee Creek Nation. He graduated from  Sequoyah High School  in Tahlequah, and the University of Tulsa. Ernie married  Leona Wickson (Seq.~ Class of 1965) on Sept. 7, 1966. Ernie loved to serve the community and was an active volunteer for disabled veterans. He was an avid pow-wow dancer and a natural entertainer. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed dearly.

     Ernie is survived by his wife, Leona; son, Ernie Tiger Jr. and wife Ellen; daughter, Carmen Hastey and husband Reed; daughter, Yonne Tiger; four grandchildren, Ernie Tiger III, Ashley Willson, Kyle Willson and Jaden Hastey; sisters, Doris Unap, Delores Unap, Ruth Green and Carlene Barrett; and brothers, Jerry Bales and Floyd Bales.

     Services will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, at Green Country Funeral Home Chapel, with burial services to follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
