TAHLEQUAH, Ok -- Texanna S. Strebel , (Seq. Teacher 1958-83), died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1993 at her home in Tahlequah.
Funeral services will be held at Hart Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1993 at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Ronnie Rice, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Tahlequah. Interment will follow in Three Rivers Cemetery in Okay, under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
Texanna was born in Indian Territory, now Wagoner County, to Samuel and Elmira (Candy) Smith. She attended rural elementary schools and graduated from Okay High School in 1924.
She and Charles Strebel were married in 1929 and made their home in Eufaula, where she was employed at Eufaula Boarding School.
She attended and graduated from Connors State College and Northeaster State University, earning a masters of science degree in education.
She was employed as a teacher in the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah and Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah, retiring in 1973.
Texanna was an original enrollee of the Cherokee Nation, a member of Tahlequah First Baptist Church, Da-Co-Tah Indian Woman's Club, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Charles; her parents; a brother, Bruce Smith; and two sisters, Elizabeth Strebel and Sirrissia Basham.
She is survived by one nephew, James R. Basham of Okay; a niece, Joan Kelly of Bartlesville; two great-nephews, James Robert Kelly of Fort Worth and David Basham of Tulsa; a great niece, Jay Lynn Hester of Tulsa; and a host of friends and loved ones.
