Martha  S.  Snell
Sequoyah Student 1990s


  On Sept. 28, 2011, beloved mother,  Martha Sue Snell McLemore , (Seq. Class of 1955) passed from this life.  She was 76 years old.  Services will be held at Rehoboth Baptist Church on Mon., Oct. 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.  She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Grover, at Lone Elm Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.  Friends may visit at the church from 9:00 a.m. to service time on Monday.
   
    Martha was born in Chewey, OK on Aug. 9, 1935 to Betsy and Homer Snell.  She attended Seneca Indian School in Wyandotte, OK, then transferred to Sequoyah Indian School in Tahlequah, OK where she graduated in May of 1955. Martha then moved to Albuquerque, NM where she earned her nursing license.  She returned to Oklahoma and began working for the Indian Health Service in Claremore, OK.  Martha loved helping people and she loved her job as a nurse.  She met her future husband at a Cherokee Gospel Singing when she was just 16 years old.  After they were reunited, she married Grover C. McLemore on August 9, 1958, her 23rd birthday.  Grover and Martha had recently celebrated 53 years of marriage and had truly become one.  Martha and Grover are once again united and shall remain as one for all eternity.

    Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Grover C. McLemore (died Sept.17, 2011), sisters Myrtle Snell Snow (Seq. Cls‘59) and Carrie Snell Crittenden; brothers James Snell and George Snell, and her parents, Homer and Betsy Oakball Snell.

    Martha is survived by her children, Larry Dean McLemore and Derrick David McLemore of the home; Darrell Dale McLemore of Lawrence, KS and Elizabeth Anita Roastingear and husband Johnny of Crownpoint, NM.  She leaves behind numerous nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews as well as four grandchildren, Quanah McLemore, Asa Benally, Sonny Reyna and Christine Loretto-Ahboah and husband Jace, and one great grandchild.
