Sandra Kay Shipp     LAWRENCE, KS --  Sandra Kay Shipp Moore , (Seq. Class of 1958), 73, beloved mother, sister, and aunt passed from this life on Friday, August 01, 2014 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, Kansas surrounded by her loving family.  She was born October 08, 1940 to Lucinda (Brown) Shipp and Jimmie S. Shipp at Maud, Oklahoma.

    Sandra (Corky) attended and graduated from Sequoyah High School , Tahlequah, Oklahoma in 1958.  She continued her education at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma and completed her Bachelor's Degree from Northeastern State College and a Master's Degree from Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

    She began her employment as Professor of English at Haskell University in  Lawrence, Kansas in 1969 until her retirement in 2013.  She thoroughly enjoyed her teaching career and was so proud of each student's success.

    Sandy (Corky) was preceded in death by her parents and a special niece, Lucinda Obregon.  She is survived by her sons: James Edwin Moore and Gregory Lance Moore of Lawrence, Kansas; brothers: Rudell Shipp (Seq. Class of 1953) and Aleiki of Lawton, Oklahoma, Cecil Shipp  (Seq. Class of 1954 & Teacher-Principal 1960-1980s) and Eva of Lutz, Florida; sisters: Gay Don Shipp Sweeney (Seq. Class of 1956) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Mary Louise Shipp Lowery (Seq. Class of 1960) and Edward Lowery (Seq. teacher, 1956-1969) of Muskogee, Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews.

    Corky was an avid golfer and when she was well could be found on the Alvamar Country Club fairways.  She introduced her sons and nephews to the game of golf.  She was a season ticket holder to both Kansas football and women's basketball games.  During the Kansas home football games,she could be found tailgating with her friends. She loved gardening and had a beautiful yard with many flowers and plants.  She loved to sit in the backyard on her deck and enjoy the gentle breezes and the large array of colors from her many flowers. Corky enjoyed reading, especially May Angelou's writings and listening to classical music.

Our wonderful mother, sister, and aunt will be truly missed.

Memorial Mass was held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Saturday, August 09, 2014.
