Lucinda  Scuggins  Wilson

     McAlester, Ok -- Lucinda "Lucille" Scuggins Wilson , 90, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007. 

     A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ in McAlester, with Bill Banks officiating. Burial will be at Chambers Cemetery under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Family will greet friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

     Born a full-blood Cherokee Indian Feb. 6, 1917, in Delaware County, to Samuel Curtis and Dorcas (Fox) Scuggins, she attended school in Butler until age 10, then went to Sequoyah Indian Boarding School (Class of 1938)  in Tahlequah.

     She was a cook at McAlester High School and McAlester Regional Health Center and retired when she was 70 years old. She was a member of the Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ of McAlester, was involved with Meals on Wheels, summer church camp, Ladies Bible Group and Women’s Indian Club.

     A lifelong Democrat, she enjoyed sports, including baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, football and basketball, gardening, sewing, puzzles and cooking. 

     Survivors include her 12 children and spouses, Dorothy Ellington, of Enid, Robert J. and Janice Wilson, of Checotah, Jean Reeves, of Muskogee, Peggy and Bill Fulkersin, of Clayton, N.M., Fran Mattias, Nobel, Jerry Wilson, of Denver, Maxine and Thomas Hayes, of McAlester, Becky and Kevin Schorr, of Manassas, Va., Betty and Tony Joslin, of Homer, Ark., Gary and Galia Wilson, of Fort Gibson, Sherry Medley, of McAlester, Terry and Kyle Adams, of Abilene, Texas; one stepdaughter and spouse, Margi and Russell Saldin, of Buena Vista, Ark.

Also, 26 grandchildren, Karla Ellington, of Massachusetts; Kim and Tommy Ritchie, of Enid, Robert and Cathy Wilson, of Eufaula, Brian and Becky Wilson, of Eufaula, Mark and Kelly Wilson, of Seminole, James and Ann Wilson, of McAlester, Rhonda Kelly, of Oklahoma City, Becki and Dal Houston, of Alva, Jeff Mattias, of Noble, Joann and Robert Haile, of McAlester, Jennifer Mattias, of Gowen, Julie Mattias, of Midwest City, Whitney Wilson, of Lawrence, Kan., Bradley Haile, of Granite, Nancy Haile, of McAlester, Jennifer and Danny Ducharme, of Chugiak, Alaska, Lindsey and John Ducharme, of Anchorage, Alaska, Carrie and Daryl Thomas, of Cordova, Tenn., Jake Wilson, of Muskogee, Tammy Wilson, of Horn Lake, Miss., Travis Wilson, of Fort Gibson, Barrett and Alisa Medley, of Wichita, Kan., Dustin Medley, of Muskogee, Derek and Julie Taylor, of McAlester, William Taylor, of Wagoner, Ivan Taylor, of McAlester.

And, two sisters,  Annie (Annabelle Scuggins) Walker  (Seq. Cls '34)  , of Grove, and Anita Petty, of Afton; 42 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Regina Fern Wilson; two sisters, Elizabeth Nelson and  Rubye Scuggins Nelson  (Seq. Cls '39)  ; one brother, Taft Scruggins; stepson and spouse, E.J. and Hannah (Jimmie) Wilson, and three sons-in-law, Richard Taylor, Bobby Reeves and Marshall Ellington.
