Kimberly Ann Sands
The students of Sequoyah have lost a friend and schoolmate. Kimberly Sands, 15, a sophomore at Sequoyah passed away on January 7, 2004, after a long illness.
Sequoyah has been so kind to the family, sending food and messages of sympathy from Kimberlys many friends, teachers and schoolmates.
Kimberly started the year as a member of girls basketball team, but due to the many absences caused by her illness, she had to stop playing and withdrew from the team.
The school and the team honored Kimberly's memory with a moment of silence at the Keys basketball game on Friday night. Kimberly's classmates took up a collection and a can was placed at the door for donations for the family.
The Girls Basketball Team presented her mom with a Sequoyah Basketball T-shirt, which all the girls on the team had signed. Her mom is going to put it in the casket with her.
Kimberly's grandparents, Watie and Margie Mclemore Wacoche attended Sequoyah in the 1950s and have been fans and supporters of Sequoyah's sports teams for many years.
