TAHLEQUAH, Ok -- Funeral services for Hazel J. Sanders-Holcomb , (Seq. 7th Grade 1962), were held on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016 at Reed-Culver Chapel with Mr. Oly Holcomb officiating. Visitation was conducted on Monday, Feb. 1st at Reed-Culver Chapel. Interment folled at Caney Cemetery in Welling, OK, with Stokes Smith Ceremonial Ground doing a graveside service.
Pallbearers for Hazel: Vernon Atkins, Jarrod Hudson, Will Atkins, Malando (Moe) Brown, L.S. Fields, Anthony Pigeon, and Brent Allen Pigeon. Honorary pallbearers: Henry Holcomb, Oly Holcomb, Lamon Weese, Boyd Smith, Mike Hudson, Bobby Joe Barron Jr., Tim Harjo, Gary Murphy, Jeremy French, and all of her nephews.
Hazel J. Holcomb was born on March 20th, 1946 in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of Frank and Fannie (Scraper) Sanders. She grew up with four brothers: Charley Holcomb, Henry Holcomb, Oly Holcomb, and Sam Sanders; two sisters: Betty Holcomb (Seq. Cls'62) and Annie Taylor [?? Anna Lou Sanders 8th 1962] .
In 1973, Hazel married Jeff Holcomb, and they spent their married lives in the Tailholt community until Jeff's passing in 1991.
Hazel was employed at Pepsi for 32 years, serving as supervisor. When she wasn't working, she liked country music, especially George Strait. She liked to go visit the countryside with her sister and best friend, Betty. Her many nieces and nephews were like her children, and she spent her free time keeping up with their activities. She loved her family dearly and couldn't wait until the entire family gathered for a meal or holiday get togethers.
Hazel was a member of Stokes Ceremonial Grounds, and attended often with Betty. She was very proud of her Keetoowah heritage and traditional ways.
Hazel passed from this life on January 27th, 2016 at her sister's home in Tahlequah, OK with her loving family gathered close by her side. Hazel was 69 years old. She will be greatly missed.
Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jeff, and her brother, Sam Sanders.
Those left to cherish her memory include three brothers, Charley Holcomb of Welling, Ok, Henry Holcomb of Briggs, OK, and Oly Holcomb of Welling, OK. Her two sisters include Betty Holcomb of Tahlequah, OK and Annie Taylor of Vian, OK. Hazel's memory lives on in her three granddaughters, as well as her many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
She passed from this life on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at her home in Tahlequah. She was 61 years old. She will be greatly missed by her many family, friends, and loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her mother; her father; one sister, Aileen Sue Mitchell; and her beloved grandmother, Maggie Dirteater.
Those left to cherish her memory include her four beloved children, Jessica Carlson of Fredonia, Kansas, Matthew Williams of Hodgens, Christopher Williams and wife Roxann of Cherryvale, Kansas, and Andy Williams of Lexington.
She also leaves four brothers and one sister, Louis Campbell of Tulsa, Robert Dan Campbell and wife Teresa of Sedan, Kansas, Tom Campbell and wife Susan of Winfield, Kansas, William Campbell of Winfield, and Janice Sorrell and husband Jeff of Ark City, Kansas.
Her legacy lives on in her three grandchildren, Sierra Carlson of Fredonia, Kansas, Tayah Williams of Cherryvale, Kansas, and Tayten Williams of Cherryvale; her special nieces, Allie Travis of Muskogee; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
