Sequoyah  Roberts

     U.S. Army veteran  Sequoyah “Chief” Roberts  (Seq. 7th grade 1947), of Wilburton, OK died Monday, July 13, 2015 in Hugo at the age of 83. Sequoyah was born September 10, 1931 in Hominy, OK to Samuel and Maude (Beaver) Roberts.

    He joined the U.S. Army in 1950 and served during the Korean War. He worked as a paint and body repairman. Sequoyah loved to play bingo, go fishing and metal detecting/treasure hunting. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3649 and the Vice Post Commander from 1999 – 2001. He also enjoyed his friends at the Choctaw Nation Senior Citizen Center.

    He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Reich and Jay of Wright City; daughter, Betty Ann Lares of Denver, CO; sons, Edwon Roberts of Denver, CO, Jimmy Lee Roberts of Denver, CO and Samuel Lee Roberts of Thomas; grandchildren: Mick Reich of Tulsa; Mia Reich and Jace Reich both of Wright City; brother Herman Henderson of Tulsa and sister-in-law, Arlene Roberts of Fairfield, IA and other family and friends.

    Sequoyah was preceded in death by his parents; and sons, Lawrence Roberts and Howard Roberts.

    A Graveside Funeral Service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2015 at Damon Cemetery, Damon Community, Oklahoma with Pastor Ralph Adcock officiating. Interment will follow.
