Lois Pugh
Sequoyah High School ~ Dorm Matron 1955 - 1979
McALESTER, Ok -- Services for Lois (McAlvain) Pugh , 95, of McAlester, formerly of Heavener, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Blevins Retirement and Health Center in McAlester.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Heavener with the Rev. Orval Heath, of Lakeview Baptist Church, Mena,Ark., officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
Born Feb. 14, 1912, in Kennedy, she was the daughter of Thomas Jay and Edna Turner McAlvain. First among her many jobs, she was a substitute teacher at Wister in the 1920s. In 1979 she retired after 23-1/2 years with BIA as a dorm supervisor at Sequoyah Indian School in Tahlequah. She always enjoyed hearing from her former students.
She had served as reporter and chaplain at the Choctaw Senior Citizens Center in Poteau. Her Choctaw friends there were special to her.
She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church of Mena, Ark.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Pugh Over and husband, John, Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons, Bill Cooper and wife, Dorothy, Clovis, N.M., and Curtis and Janet Pugh, Bosca, Romania.
Also, one brother, Alton Freeman, Anaheim, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three nephews, and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a sister, and one brother.
