Raymond Pope
Sequoyah High School ~ Student & Employee 1950s
ARDMORE, Ok -- Services for Raymond Pope (Sequoyah Class of 1950) , 80, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home Chapel with Leslie Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Born Feb. 15, 1927 at McAlester to Laman and Elsie Lishbrook Pope, he died April 12, 2007 at Ardmore. He married Ramona Marie Dyer (Seq. employee 1950s) Jan. 26, 1957 at Tahlequah. She preceded him in death June 14, 1988. He was also preceded in death by a son, Roger, brothers, Chester Pope (Seq.3rd grd '47) and Gilbert Pope, and a sister, Marie Pope Scharpf (Seq. Class of 1951) .
Mr. Pope served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for 35 years as an assistant manager at Carter Seminary and also worked at several boarding schools including Sequoyah Vocational School in Tahlequah, Okla.. He had worked at Wal-Mart for eight years before retiring. He was a mason and a shriner.
Survivors include a son, Bryan Pope, Shawnee, Okla.; brother, Laman Pope (Seq. 8th grd '47) , Meyers, Ariz.; and special friends, Janet Lindsey and Doris Freeman.
Bearers are Jeff Pope, Charles James, Larry Allison, Leslie Gibson Jr., Shane and Wade Dunagan and Colt Pruitt. Honorary bearers are Jeff Kleinsteiber, Chester Pope Jr., John Scharpf, Patrick and Kevin Wall, Larry Hill, Jim Gibson, Ron Parker, Bob Guthrie and George Cronemeyer.
