Helen Pitchlynn Byars

Helen Pitchlynn Byars passed away on January 15, 1998. She was the daughter of Edward Everett Pitchlynn and Sudie Lane Maytubby (MintiAbit). She was born in Caddo, Oklahoma on February 28, 1914.
Helen was a great-granddaughter of Peter Perkins Pitchlynn, Chief of the Choctaw in 1864-1866. She was a granddaughter of Peter Maytubby, the last elected Chief of the Chickasaws in 1906.
She attended school at Caddo, Carter Seminary, a Chickasaw Indian School for girls in Ardmore, Oklahoma and Sequoyah Indian School in Tahlequah.
Preceding her in death was her husband, William Byars; sisters, Sophia Maytubby Freeny and Ruth Pitchlynn and brothers, Peter Paul, Everett, Charlie and Robert Pitchlynn.
Survivors include two sisters, Naomi Mansell of Durant, Oklahoma and Lillian Findley of Caddo; nephews, John Ellis Freeny of Oklahoma City, John Paul and Michael Edward Pitchlynn of Tulsa and nieces, Sue Willis of Kingston, Oklahoma, Emma Sue Wickett and Bobbie Charlene Jones of Tulsa.
