Dollie  Mae  Pettit

     TAHLEQUAH, Ok -- Funeral services for  Dollie Mae Pettit Blackbird  (Seq. Class of 1972), 54, of Marble City, were held Sept. 20 at the House of Praise in Marble City with Rev. Joe Grayson officiating. Burial was at the Flute Springs Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. 

     Mrs. Blackbird was born Aug. 7, 1953, in Tahlequah to William Pettit and Cynthia (Rosin) Pettit. She died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, in Tulsa. Mrs. Blackbird was a seamstress and homemaker, and was of the Methodist faith. She married Junior Lee Blackbird in 1982. Mae’s laughter and sense of humor will be missed. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren at Sallisaw Creek fishing and cooking out, and organizing and attending family gatherings. 

     Survivors include her husband, Junior of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Harriet Pettit and William Byrne of Marble City; six sisters, Reba Rodgers, Cecelia Hardbarger, Elsie Pettit Wade  (Seq 64-65-66- Cls'67) , Phoebe Pettit  (Fresh '69)  and Winnie Pettit (Fresh 72-soph 73)  all of Marble City and Cynthia Pettit Vann  (Seq. Freshman 1974) of Sallisaw; one adopted sister, Shannon Cheater of Marble City; two brothers, Jack Pettit and Gerald Pettit (Seq 68-69-Cls'70)  both of Marble City; five grandchildren, Sara, Dwight, Jericho, Hannah and Kaitlyn; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

      Her parents and one brother, Deronie Pettit (Seq Freshman 1971), preceded her in death. Pallbearers were David Pettit, Thomas Hardbarger, Will Chavez, Mike Pettit, Ron Chavez and James Hardbarger.
