Charles  Ray  Merritt

Charles R. Merritt-67     WEWOKA,OKk --  Charles Ray Merritt , (Seq. Class of 1967), age 66 years passed away from this life on October 2, 2013 at Select Speciality Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on June 24, 1947 to Cora (Lena) Green and Wesley Green Sr.

Charles graduated from Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah with the Class of 1967 and later attended Haskell Indian University. He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for years after relocating back to Seminole, he began working for the Seminole Nation Mysstic Winds Casino before retiring. He was a member of the Tallahasse New Tulsa Ceremonial Grounds.

Charles married Myrna Tiger  (Seq.Class of 1970) on October 21, 1970. They had one son and two daughters. He loved spending time with his kids and grandchildren. He loved to read western books and tell stories about his younger years. He was a hard working and silly loving man.

Preceding Charles in death are his parents, two grandsons: Kyle Merritt and Todd Merritt; a nephew Christopher Merritt.

Survivors include his wife Myrna; son Michael Merritt of Seminole; two daughters: Lee Ann Merritt McPerryman (Seq.Class lof 1992)  of Seminole, Brittany Merritt  (Seq.Class of 2008) of Konawa; nine grandchildren: Tiffany Merritt, Tre'cee Merritt, Johnnie Merritt, Megan Merritt, Ashley Merritt, Tavon Leveretta, Mya Merritt, Ayden McPerryman, and Makenzie Merritt;one great-grandchild Tyler Merritt; three brothers: Oscar Bunner, Billy J. Merritt (Seq.Class of 1975) , both of Seminole, and Wesley Green Jr. of Wewoka; five sisters: Mary Woods of Maud, Linda Merritt Martin  (Seq. Jr '71) of Seminole, Kizzie Wildcat of Wetumka, Oshe Merritt * (Seq. Jr '71) and Vanessa Green of Wewoka; one aunt Mary Jane Lena.  [spelled Ostie in Seq. yrbks]

Pall bearers will be: Mose Meritt, Mel Lena, Gary Lena, Henson Lena, Roy Carpitcher and Bennie Tiger.  Honorary bearers will be: Mvskoke Yargee, Tommy Culberson Sr, Jimmy Tiger, Junior Tiger and Francis Miller.

Wake services will be 6:00 PM, Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Merritt.

Wake service will be 7:00 PM Sunday Oct. 6, 2013 at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church in Wewoka, with Rev. Houston Tiger and Rev. Billy Merritt officiating and burial at Tiger Family Cemetery.
