Beatrice Jeanette Berryhill was born on February 14th, 1914 in Teresita, OK, the daughter of Ned and Jane (Tosh) Lowrey. Jeanette passed from this life on Saturday Nov. 1st, 2008.
She attended and graduated from Sequoyah Orphan Training School (Class of 1939 or 1940) in Tahlequah. On May 24, 1940, Jeanette became the bride of Richard Berryhill (Seq. Cls' 1940) in Sapulpa, OK. This union was blessed with one son, Don Alexander Berryhill, who passed from this life in 2005.
Jeanette worked in the laundry department of a hospital in San Francisco, CA. In 1982, Jeanette and her husband Richard retired to the Tahlequah area until Richard’s passing in 1992. When she wasn’t working, Jeanette loved to travel and made it to all but two of the fifty states. She was known to sit and crochet and also worked as a weaver at Sequoyah. She was happy spending time in the great outdoors and loved birds and flowers of all types. She had a very determined spirit and faced all of life’s challenges head on. But most of all, she enjoyed the time she spent with her family just enjoying a meal. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jeanette was very proud of her Cherokee heritage. The Lowrey family, whose members included Major George Lowery and his brother John, first came to the Tahlequah area by way of the Trail of Tears.
Those preceding her in death include her parents, her husband Richard, her son Donald, her sisters, Veneta Eatherly and Dorothy Lowery Foster (Seq. Cls' 40) , and brother Johnny Lowrey.
Those left to cherish her memory include one brother, Roy Lowrey and wife Betty of Drumright, OK; one sister, Cleota Lowery Fisher (Seq. Cls' 41) of Tahlequah, OK; sister-in-law Helen Lowrey of Broken Arrow, OK; nieces and nephew, Amy Williams of Broken Arrow, OK, Frances and Jerry Ford of Hulbert, OK, Judy and Nick Telemchuk of Hulbert, OK, Bill and Kathy Fisher of Hulbert, OK, Janie and Charles Oldham of Broken Arrow, OK, Delores and Alan Snead of Conroe, TX, and LaDonna Lowrey of Edmond, OK.; three adored grandchildren, Donald Dean Berryhill, Stephen Berryhill, and Douglas Berryhill, all of California; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends and loved ones.
