Charles  “Rock”  Locust
Sequoyah  H S   ~   1965/66 ~ 69

TAHLEQUAH  –  Charles “Rock” Locust  passed from this life Monday, April 17, 2006, in Wagoner, at the age of 54 years. He was born July 15, 1951, in Tahlequah, to Jess and Ella (Beaver) Locust.

     Charles graduated from  Sequoyah High School , Class of 1969 and married Mary (Dry) on Dec. 14, 1974. He was a truck driver for 30 years and enjoyed golfing, going to Sequoyah ball games and taking his grandchildren everywhere.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Ella Locust; and two brothers, Abe Locust and Oaks Locust  (Cls '63).

He is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Mary Locust; one daughter,  Rochelle Locust  (Cls '96) ; one son, Rocky Charles Locust  (Cls '98) ; three sisters, Myria Ballard, Edith Dalton and Paula Christie; five brothers, Mike McConnell, Louis Locust, (Seq. ),  Leslie “Jay” Locust   (Cls '66) , Vincent “Toy” Locust (Seq. Cls'67) and James “Booter” Locust (Seq.Jr.'71); three grandchildren, Jordan, Dakota and Sage; as well a numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Evening wake service was held Wednesday, April 19, at the Reed-Culver Chapel. Services were Thursday, April 20, at the Vian Creek Baptist Church in Evening Shade Community, with  Rev. Richard Pickup  (Cls '65) and  Rev. Gill Hooper  (Sr.'69) officiating. Burial followed at Barnoskie Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Danny Meely, Sequoyah Locust, Buck Locust,  Brian Locust  (Cls '99) , Les Locust,  Knokovtee Locust  (Cls '95) , Sam McConnell and Vfastv Locust. Honorary pallbearers were:  Tony Dearman  (Seq. Sci-Teacher 2000) , Bill Watt,  Jeff Turtle  (Seq-coach 2000) , Jerry Long,  Ben Cornell  (Dorm-Attnd '60s)Mark Vance  (Seq-coach 2000) , Leroy Springwater, Willie Carpenter, Elvis Dry,  David Cypress  (Cls '71)Leroy Qualls  (Seq-coach 2000) , Dennis Christie, Jason Grasshopper and George Grasshopper.


     Tahlequah man dies in rig accident

Muskogee, Ok --  A Tahlequah man was killed Monday after he was ejected from the tractor-trailer rig he was driving.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol,  Charles Locust , 55, was driving west on Oklahoma 51, about 3 miles east of Wagoner in Wagoner County.

        The OHP reports states the tires of Locust’s truck left the pavement, Locust overcorrected, and the rig overturned. 

     Locust, the OHP states, was tossed from the cab of the truck about 8 feet from the point of impact. Locust was pronounced dead at the scene by Wagoner County EMS workers.

The wreck occurred at about 8:24 a.m. Monday. Seat belts were not in use.
