TAHLEQUAH, Ok -- Funeral services for Betty Sue Kingfisher , (Seq. Dorm Matron 2000s), was born in Tahlequah,OK on May 25, 1948 to Mary Ann (Chewey) Tucker and Sequoyah Tucker. She started her school life at Rocky Ford rural school and graduated from Oaks High School in 1966 and went to Haskell Training School in Lawrence,KS to receive her nursing certificate in 1969. She married Jack Nelson Kingfisher in March of 1970. At her death Jack and Betty were married 47 years.
In her lifetime she was a nurse, teacher, EMS personnel, drug and alcohol abuse counselor, Sequoyah High Dormitory Administrator, as well as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, auntie, niece, and friend, She was a member of New Mission Baptist Church in her early life and moved her membership to Johnson Prairie Baptist where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Food Committee member, WMU member, and a host of other obligations that she was happy to serve as she was serving her Lord.
She loved to sing and began singing with the Rocky Ford Quartet in 1975.The group consisted of Jack and Betty Kingfisher and Lelah Mae and Sanford Cummings. After the passing of Brother Sanford Cummings she replaced her mother-in-law Marie Kingfisher (upon her passing) in the Kingfisher Family Gospel Singing as well as an all female group, The Tonettes. She loved to sing and at every opportunity, whether church, singing, or just relaxing, she was singing. God gave her a voice and she was happy to use it to praise his name.
She was a Christian and was not ashamed to let people know. She was kind-hearted and loving to each and everyone she met. She prayed for all and often expressed that she wanted to see entire family serving God. Today she brings us together as family, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father and two brothers, Tom Lee Smith and Johnson Tucker.
Betty is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jack Kingfisher of the home, two sons: Westley "Choogie" Kingfisher and wife Traci of Pryor, and Timothy Kingfisher (Seq.Class of 1991) and Chas Kingfisher of Moodys, and one daughter, Rachel Russell of Rocky Ford. 12 grandchildren: Brandon "Bam" Russell of Rocky Ford, Larry Russell of Oaks, Trey Noe of Tahlequah, Jason Kingfisher (Seq.Class of 2008) of Tahlequah, Stevaney "Stevi" Kingfisher (Seq.Class of 2013) of Salina, Olivia and Zakiriah Kingfisher of Pryor, Shandah Kingfisher of Okmulgee, Nick Kingfisher (Seq.Class of 2014), Kandace Kingfisher (Seq.Class of 2017) ,and Jarred Kingfisher of Moodys. 14 great grandkids, Brant, Eyan, Cam, Nakoah, Tiajer, Talisha, Big Bear, Christopher, Hezekiah, Kinzley, Holland, Zaedyn, Keeyan, Tyberius and two more greats in the coming months. She was blessed with a host of nieces,nephews,adopted grandbabies as well as many she considered sons and daughters and a host of other relatives. She is loved.
