TAHLEQUAH -- Services for Rene Hart were held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, in the Green Country Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bill Holcomb officiating assisted by Don Ade (Cls '65).
Honorary pallbearers were William Stopp, Billy Lee Murphy, Dan Hayes, Louie Hayes, Ricky “Chicken Creek” Silk, Rick Gourd and Billy Barnes.
Rene Hart was born Aug. 19, 1943, in Rocky Ford, to Walter and Lydia Hart. She lost her courageous battle with cancer on Jan. 5, 2006. A lifetime resident of Tahlequah, Rene (Sequoyah Jr-Hi @1957) was a Tahlequah High School graduate and attended Northeastern State University. She passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded and cared for by family and very special friends Melody Coppetti and Cletha Rooks.
Rene enjoyed traveling and had seen most of the U.S. and parts of Mexico. Her favorite state to visit was New Mexico. Some of the activities she enjoyed most were fishing, camping, playing shuffleboard, pool - billiards, and cooking out with family and friends.
Rene was preceded in death by her father; stepfather Wilburn Neal; and her two brothers, Donnie Hart and Homer Hart of Tahlequah.
She is survived by her mother; two sisters, Zelma Hart Person (Seq @ 1956-57) and husband John Carello of Marina Del Ray, Calif., and Maxine Hart of Tahlequah; immediate family members, nephew Rick Powell and wife Gayle of Burbank, Calif., niece Robin Resendiz and husband Jim of Santa Clarita, Calif., niece Sheri Person of Burbank, Calif., and sister-in-law Carol Hart of Tahlequah; as well as a host of other relatives and friends, which were too many to name.
