TAHLEQUAH, Ok -- Funeral services for Anna Faye Glory Rooster , age 88, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel in Tahlequah. Reverend Dr. Lois V. Glory-Neal, Reverend Patrick Freeman, and Reverend David Wilson will officiate. Interment will follow services at Tahlequah City Cemetery. A wake will be held at D.D. Etchison United Methodist Church starting at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Services have been entrusted to the care of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
Anna, a full-blood Cherokee, passed from this life on February 14th 2009. She was born March 22, 1920, in Tahlequah to Joe and Mary Glory, one of eleven children. Anna graduated from Sequoyah Orphans Training School in 1937 at the young age of 16 as the Valedictorian of her Class and earned a scholarship to the University of Oklahoma. She went into practical nursing in 1964 working at Muskogee General Hospital in Muskogee, OK, Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, the VA Hospital in Muskogee, OK and retired from the Claremore Indian Hospital in 1990, leaving nursing after twenty six years. Anna had always wanted to return to the Cherokee Nation and work with her community. While at Claremore, she also served as an interpreter of the Cherokee Language in assisting Cherokee speaking patients.
Anna was preceded in death by her former husband (s) Johnston Wilson Holden, Hastings Cochrane (Seq. Cls '41) and grandson Frank Bancroft, Jr.
She is survived by husband Joe Rooster, stepsons Dobson and Sammy, three daughters and three sons: daughter Anita Duncan and two children Gloria and Mary Frances; daughter Gloria Spybuck with husband Larry and children, Jerry, Angela, Deanna, Marina and a grandson Nick; her son John Earl Holden with wife Dolores and children Daniel, Sarah, Brian, Knesha, Neena and Seager; son Ronald Joe Holden and sons Joe Eric and Ronald Brenden; daughter Mary Louise Nordwall with husband Rick and sons Eric and Sean; son James Turner Holden with wife Glenda and children Aaron, Paul, Cassandra, Jason, Michael, James, and Jericca. In all, she is survived by twelve grandchildren, twenty great grand children, and five great, great grand children.
Anna will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends.
