John Deere, Sr
WEWOKA - Johnn DEERE , Sr., was born November 10, 1920, in Eufaula. He died September 6, 1991, in Eufaula. Funeral services were held September 10 at the Eufaula First Baptist Church. No information was given on the place of interment.
He graduated from Sequoyah Orphans Training School in 1938, attended Bacone College for two years, and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs after 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Minerola McIntosh DEERE; his wife, Lorraine DEERE; three sisters, Eunice, Margureite, and Marion DEERE; and one half brother, Wiley DEERE.
He is survived by his daughter, Bettie WILLISTON of Dallas; his two sons, John DEERE, Jr., and George DEERE, both of Downey, CA; one half-sister, Naomi THOMPSON, and one half-brother, Noah DEERE of Muskogee; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
