Stella Mae Coon Flute was born on March 26th, 1937 in Adair County, OK the daughter of Joe and Nancy (Campbell) Coon. She graduated from Sequoyah Vocational School , Class of 1957, was crowned Queen of the Cornstalks and received a scholarship which allowed her to attend nursing school in Albuquerque, NM, where she obtained her LPN degree.

August 12th, 1959 she met and married Richard Begay. She returned to the Tahlequah area where she worked briefly at Tahlequah City Hospital before she began working as a Public Health Servant for the Indian Health service at W. W. Hasting Hospital. She was employed at W.W. Hastings Hospital as a Surgical Technician until she retired in 1995.

She married Famous Cole Lee and together they raised a family of five children; Darryl, Ella, Terry, Tammy, and Bobby. Stella was never one to sit and watch the world go by. She had the personality of everyone's best friend. She was happy, cheerful and a joy to be around. Her humor was the best and she had a way of making everyone feel welcome in her home. She was gifted in the kitchen and you knew you were in for a treat if she made her fried chicken, spaghetti, or one of her wonderful peach or berry cobblers.

She was proud of her Cherokee heritage and worked as an interpreter for clients at the hospital as well as anywhere she was needed. She was a devout Christian, Baptist by faith and was a founding member of the Johnson and Pritchett Baptist Church, now known as the Rocky Mountain Baptist Church. She loved Gospel music and enjoyed singing the old Cherokee hymns.

The love of her life was her family. She adored her children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews and spent as much time as possible watching their sporting events or enjoying a meal with them.

She married Levi Flute in October 1981 and they enjoyed family life together until his passing in May of 1982.

After her retirement from W. W. Hastings, Stella continued working in home health and Hospice nursing treating those in her care like family. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her labors on June 6th, 2014 in Tahlequah, OK with her loved ones by her side. Stella was 77 years old.
