Genora  Burgess  Newville

Genora Burgess Newville , 62, died February 27, 1994 in Lewisville, Texas. Services were held March 1, in the Lakeland Baptist Church with the Revs. Ben Smith and Donny Forson officiating. A second service was held at the First Baptist Church in Lexington, Okla. with Rev. Russell Newville officiating. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery.

    She was born January 25, 1932 in Stilwell, Okla., the daughter of Joe and Margaret Blackwood Burgess Johnson. She attended some boarding schools for part of her educational experience before graduating from Sequoyah Vocational School in Tahlequah in 1951 (attended 7th grade in 1947 through early 1950s but not listed as a graduate).

    On June 6, 1953 she married Cecil Arnold Newville. They made their home in Oklahoma City for the first 20 years. In 1974, Mr. and Mrs. Newville moved to Lewisville, Texas. 

    An active member of the Lakeland Baptist Church there, Mrs. Newville served as cook for the youth group when they attended Texas Week at the Falls Creek Baptist Assembly near Davis. Mrs. Newville was a member of the Cherokee Nation. Her given name means "Snowflower" in Cherokee.

    Among those she leaves behind include her husband of the home; her children, Nita and Gary, both of Okla., Calvin and Tina, both of Texas, and Clifton of Ind.; two brothers, Isaac Burgess  (Seq. Cls '47) of Albuquerque N.M. and Alfred Johnson  (Seq. 5th grd 1947) , a noted artist from Nashua, N.H.; 14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Ora Newville of Lexington.
