Robert  Sylvester  Bighorse

    Robert Sylvester Bighorse  died Monday, February 28, 2011 at his home in American Canyon, Calif. Robert passed peacefully at home after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was 78 years old.

    Mr. Bighorse was born November 7, 1932 in Bigheart Township, Oklahoma, the son of George and Frances Margaret (Davis) Bighorse.

Robert attended  Sequoyah Vocational School in Tahlequah, Okla., as a 7th grader in 1947 and left for the military after completing the 11th grade.

Robert, a Native American, was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. After his return from Korea, he worked in the oilfields of Oklahoma before he and his family moved to California in 1955. He retired from American Manufacturing of Concord in 1991.

Robert, unmarried, was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George Bighorse. 

Surviving are: a sister:  Laura Bighorse Johnson  (Seq. Cls '57) of American Canyon; Two brothers:  Frank Bighorse  (Seq. Stud. 1950s) of Locust Grove;  Charles Bighorse  (Seq. Stud. 1950s) of Wagoner; and a host of other family and friends.

Services were held March 7 at The Wakon Iron Hall, Osage Reservation, in Pawhuska, Okla.; Eddie RedEagle officiated. Burial followed at the Pierce-St. John Family Cemetery, also in Pawhuska.
