Georgia  Ballew
Sequoyah Teacher 1954 - 1968

  Tahlequah Okla. ~   Georgia Ballew , 53, died Sunday in Tahlequah City hospital after a short illness. She was born June 14, 1914 in Moodys.

    Miss Ballew attended Tahlequah schools and graduated from Northeastern State College with a BA degree in education from Oklahoma University. She started teaching in 1935 at the Bureau of Indian Affairs School in Arizona, and also taught at Wyandotte for 17 years.

    She had been a teacher for the past 14 (1954-68) years at the Sequoyah Vocational School ; was a member of the First Baptist church a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Kappa Iota sororities and an active member of the Women's Missionary Union of the church.

    Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Carrie Ballew, and a brother Herman Buck Ballew (Seq. Teacher 1965-1981) , both of Tahlequah.

    Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Reed-Culver Funeral Home chapel by Rev. John Brill of the First Baptist church, and Rev. Sam Hider of the Indian Baptist church at Jay.

    Burial was in Tahlequah City cemetery. Bearers were [Seq. Employees] Diamond Roach , Edwin S. Moore , Bennett Guthrie , Riley White , Billy Robertson , Sam Price , Amon Baker and Jim Justus .
